General Manager (Transport and Logistics) Full Time

Job Summary 

The General Manager leads and coordinates the company operations, working closely with the senior leadership to ensure strategic matters are well instituted and executed within the day-to-day operations

Main Responsibilities

• Leads the preparation of company annual strategies in collaboration with all key stakeholders including senior leadership, management teams and other key staff
• Coordinates, monitors and evaluates the execution of approved strategies with and through management covering all core functions -business development, marketing, sales, operations and fleet management, people, inventory, financial budgets and cost management, etc  ensuring relevant goals, plans and activities are well articulated to strategic goals
• Coordinates and runs various day to day company activities through and with management team, ensuring all key resources (people, financial, materials and equipment) are prudently allocated and utilized towards achieving business goals
• Manages the business performance process, coordinating and supervising the establishment, monitoring, and reporting of KPIs and targets across the organization enabling efficiency and effectiveness leading to operational excellence and achievement of superior business performance
• Provides leadership to the operations team, ensuring transportation activities, fleet management, workshop and maintenance as core business support functions are well managed to deliver on the company’s mission
• Guides in the development and implementation of competitive operational plans to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in costing, pricing, margins, route safety, and overall productivity of fleet, quality, and service excellence
• Reviews and approves resources allocation to various projects priorities
• Performs a wide range of administration tasks to support business operations
• Coordinates, institutes and reinforces the development and application of relevant governance structures, policies, standard operating procedures, business processes and best practices to enable orderliness, efficiency, effectiveness, meeting regulatory and statutory compliance requirements whilst achieving business goals

Key Requirements

• Knowledgeable and well experienced with transport and logistics business in Tanzania and East African regions
• Knowledgeable to transportation regulations in Tanzania and neighboring countries
• Demonstrable leadership and management skills
• Commercially savvy
• At least 8+ years of consistent working experience in transportation and logistics industry
• Prior experience in general management of a transportation company or similar businesses for at least 5 years
• Fluent in both English and Kiswahili
• Degree in Supply chain management, transportation management, business or any relevant
